Introduction

From our humble beginnings in 1968 as a small, government-owned steel company, POSCO has flourished over the years to become the world's leading steel producer. With its headquarters in in the southeastern port city of Pohang, POSCO employs approximately 19,373. Growing from a single plant in the early 1970s, Posco now operate two of the world's premier steel producing facilities, Pohang and Gwangyang Works, and have forged strategic alliances and partnerships with numerous companies in Asia, the Americas and Europe.

Over the past 36 years Posco has risen to the top of the global steel industry. Through hard work and perseverance, POSCO has become the driving force in the world steel industry. Reliance on the core business principals has helped and given courage and strength to Posco to continuously move forward in this ever-changing industry, seeking out new niches in the global marketplace. As the world's most competitive steel company, POSCO continues to break new ground in the areas of environmentally friendly production techniques, innovative management practices and investor relations (IR).

At present, the combined steel output of their two primary steelworks, the Pohang Works (899 hectares) and the Gwangyang Works (1,253 hectares), totals 28 million tons and includes hot rolled coil and plates, cold rolled sheets, plates and wire rods, flat rolled magnetic steel sheets and strips, electrical steel sheets and stainless steel products

Quality & Environmental Certifications

ISO 9001: 200 Certifications

Management system, POSCO obtained ISO 9002 certification in October of 1993. After re-certification in 1996 and 1999, POSCO changed its quality certification to ISO 9001:2000 in July 2002.

QS 9000 Certifications

QS9000 certification was created for the U.S. Big 3 automakers, and aside from the standard ISO 9001 requirements, it includes special requirements for the automobile industry. POSCO obtained this certification in September 1997, thus enhancing the competitiveness of our product quality.

ISO 14001 Certifications

POSCO obtained re-certification for ISO 14001, which we first acquired in July 1996. This internatio nal certification confirms that POSCO's environme ntal management system has become mature in terms of its appropriateness, operational efficiency and implementation.
