National Hydroelectric Power Corporation
Overview

NHPC was incorporated under the Company's Act 1956 in November 1975 as a Central Government Enterprise with the initial authorised share capital of Rs. 2000 million for hydropower development in Central Sector. Since then, NHPC has become the largest organization for hydropower development in India, with capabilities to undertake all the activities from conceptualisation to commissioning in relation to setting up of hydro projects. NHPC is a schedule 'A' Enterprise of the Govt. Of India and is among the top ten companies in the country in terms of investment.

NHPC is a well-established ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified, multi-disciplinary organisation and has acquired sufficient expertise and state of art technology for planning and executing both large and small size Hydro Power Projects.

Objectives

  • To Harness the vast hydro potential of the country along with wind and tidal power in all aspects to produce cheap, pollution free and inexhaustible power.

  • To play a significant role in the integrated and efficient development od hydroelectric power in the central sector covering all aspects - investigation, planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance.

  • To Generate sufficient internal resources for short term and long term financing for expansion of existing and setting up of new projects.

  • To continue efforts to maximise output and generation at the least economic cost.

  • To complete all on-going projects without any time and cost overruns.

Performance Highlights

  • Registered net profit of Rs. 581 (unaudited) croes as against Rs. 510.50 crores during the previous fiscal, thereby registering an increase of 13.61%.

  • An all time high sales turnover of Rs. 1412 crores as against Rs. 1324.90 crores during the year 2002-03.

  • Authorised share capital increased to Rs. 15,000 crores

Consultancy Services

The Consultancy Services Division was set up in 1993 in NHPC to provide the expertise gained in Investigation, Survey, Planning, Design, Construction, Operation and Maintenance of hydro power projects to other organisations/ departments in public and private sector engaged in development of hydro power projects. Expert manpower so developed is also being optimally utilized in consultancy services for development of national resources of hydro power.
