Background

Hindalco Industries Limited a flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, with a turnover of Rs. 4975.5 crore, ranks among India's top 10 companies in terms of market capitalization. A non-ferrous metals powerhouse, Hindalco's operations are organized into two Strategic Business Units - Aluminium and Copper.

Aluminium

Hindalco's integrated operations and operating efficiency have enabled the Company to be among the world's lowest cost producers of aluminium.

Expansion Plans

To further strengthen its presence in the aluminium sector, the Company is implementing a Rs. 1800 crore Brownfield expansion at Renukoot. In line with the original expansion plan, Aluminium Smelting capacity was to be increased by 100,000 MTPA to 342,000 MTPA, Alumina Refining Capacity was to be augmented by 210,000 MTPA to reach 660,000 MTPA (450,000 MTPA) and Power Generation Capacity was to be enhanced to 779 MW (619 MW).

Awards & Recognition
Company's metal is accepted for delivery under the High Grade Aluminium Contract on the LME (London Metal Exchange). The Company's export efforts have led to its recognition as a 'Star Trading House'. Hindalco is an ISO 9002 Company, and has also received ISO 14001 certification for its entire operations, including its Power Plant and Mines. Hindalco has received several awards from the Export Promotion Councils as well as the Government of India such as ISO/TS16949 certification for Aura Alloy Wheels 2003, FIMI's Social Awareness Award etc. With the completion of the ongoing Brownfield expansion, Hindalco will further consolidate its domestic market leadership, and reach out to international markets in larger measure.

Copper

Birla Copper enjoys leadership position in India, and is well entrenched in the quality conscious South East Asia and the Middle East Regions.

Birla Copper has a mega greenfield Copper Smelting and Refining complex at Dahej in the Bharuch district of Gujarat, is the largest of its kind in India. To become globally competitive in terms of its cost structure, the Copper Division has undertaken a Brownfield expansion to raise the Smelter capacity. When accomplished, this low cost expansion will position Birla Copper amongst the top 20% producers globally.

Products
The plant produces world class -

1. Copper Cathodes,
2. Continuous Cast Copper Rods
3. Precious Metals.
4. Apart from copper products, Sulphuric Acid, Phosphoric Acid, Di-Ammonium Phosphate, other Phosphatic
Fertilizers and Phospho - Gypsum, are also produced at this plant.

Awards And Recognition

Birla Copper's quality standards are recognized internationally. It has been accorded the LME (London Metal Exchange) registration: its copper cathodes marketed as "Birla Copper", have been approved as a 'Grade A' copper brand by the LME. In addition, Birla Copper is an ISO 9001 Company, and has also received the ISO 14001 certification.
